I recently had windows installed in my back porch so it would be usable for more than a few months of the year. Previously, the porch was screened, but we also had plexiglass window inserts with a thin aluminum frame that could be placed up against the window openings in the winter, and were...I recently had windows installed in my back porch so it would be usable for more than a few months of the year. Previously, the porch was screened, but we also had plexiglass window inserts with a thin aluminum frame that could be placed up against the window openings in the winter, and were held in place with little gray swivel clips. They provided some protection from the cold in the winter but they were always a little bit drafty. It was also a pain to take them down in the spring and put them back up in the late fall. And then there was the issue of where to put them when they weren't in use.
I got quotes from four different window companies, and in the end I decided to go with North Georgia Replacement Windows (NGRW). Although they were the most expensive quote I received, I believe I got a superior product. Everybody else was quoting me vinyl windows, but NGRW's quote was for Infinity fiberglass windows by Marvin. I liked their windows because they had thinner rails and stiles which wouldn't impede the view, and were structurally 8 times stronger than vinyl. Strength was a factor because we were removing every other post in order to preserve the view.
The design process went smoothly and the consultant, Steve Quarles, worked with me to make sure we had a design that would work well and look good. The double paned argon filled Low E-2 window sliders were custom built and were finished by the date promised.
The installation date was set, and Jimmy Monroe (Installation Supervisor) and the installation crew showed up as promised despite the nasty weather that was forecast for that day. I was afraid they might cancel on me and I'd have to reschedule, but they didn't. When they showed up they covered things with drop clothes so as not to soil any of the rugs out on the back porch. All the workers were respectful of the property and were very polite. They worked diligently from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm and by the end of the day they had replaced seventeen screened openings with eight new slider windows and one picture window.
The new windows look great, operate flawlessly, and I can already tell a difference in the temperature out on the back porch. Plus, they do a much better job of keeping all the yellow Georgia pollen off the furniture and other flat surfaces.
