Tips for Cleaning Fiberglass Windows

Tips for Cleaning Fiberglass Windows

Ease of maintenance is one of the many advantages of window frames made of fiberglass. These windows don’t warp, weather, crack or discolor as other window frames do, even after many years. However, cleaning fiberglass windows regularly keeps them looking their best.

Cleaning Products

Using non-abrasive, gentle detergents and soft cloths is the key to removing dirt and grime from high-quality fiberglass windows without damaging them. Infinity from Marvin fiberglass windows are made from patented Ultrex® Fiberglass. To protect the special coating on Ultrex fiberglass, Marvin recommends cleaning with warm soap and water.

Also, homeowners should only use the recommended detergents at standard strength for domestic use and apply the product gently with a non-abrasive cleaning cloth. If harsher chemicals or abrasive cleaning materials are used, the surface could develop permanent scratches or other damage.

Cleaning Fiberglass Windows

  • Brush away spiderwebs, bugs and other loose materials clinging to the frames using a long-handled, soft-bristled broom.
  • Dilute the cleaning solution to a standard household strength according to the instructions on the label.
  • Apply the diluted solution to a soft cloth and gently wipe the Ultrex® surface, removing the surface dirt without rubbing or scrubbing.
  • Don’t use paint thinner, solvents or other harsh chemicals to clean Ultrex® windows.
  • For stubborn stains, test more aggressive cleaners on a small, inconspicuous area and rinse thoroughly with plenty of clean water.

With regular cleaning but very little other maintenance, Infinity from Marvin fiberglass windows look as good as new for decades. What’s more, cleaning fiberglass windows isn’t difficult, providing the homeowner sticks to using gentle products to avoid damaging the special coating.
